How to use diamond polishing pads?

A Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Preparation: Begin by securing the material you will be polishing to prevent it from moving. Attach a backing pad to a variable speed wet/dry grinder, and then affix the diamond polishing pad to the backing pad.
  2. Starting with Coarse Grit: Attach a 50 grit diamond polishing pad to the grinder. Start polishing the surface from left to right, using a low speed of less than 1,000 RPM. Continue until most of the saw marks and scratches are removed.
  3. Progressing Through Grits: Replace the 50 grit pad with a 100 grit pad and repeat the polishing process. Continue this progression, moving to higher grits (200, 400, 800, 1,000, and 1,500), each time polishing the entire surface to remove finer scratches and enhance the shine.
  4. Final Polishing: Finish the polishing process with a 1,500 grit pad, which should leave the surface with a shiny, glass-like finish.
  5. Patience and Detail: Ensure you thoroughly polish with each grit level before moving to the next. This step-by-step progression is crucial for achieving a smooth and high-quality finish.
